Improvement of Growth and Development of Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) Through the Application of Chitosan at Different Plant Maturity Stages

Sweet basil is one of the most popular culinary, medicinal, and fragrance herbs in Mediterranean, Asian, Western countries. This study aims to increase growth performance sweet via different concentrations chitosan, which applied at three stages. The was arranged a factorial randomized complete block design with four replications. plants were divided into stages, vegetative stage (S1), reproductive (S2), both stages (S1 + S2). Those then treated chitosan (0, 2, 4, 6 ml/L) either on S1, S2, or S1 S2. results indicated that showed greater performance. Chitosan concentration 4 ml/L produced plant height (55.09 ± 1.75 cm/plant), stem diameter (11.08 0.89 mm/plant), number leaves (296.57 11.61 leaves/plant). It also interesting observe lowest non-significantly different, some parameters. Plants those treatments highest average length internode, branches, total root length, diameter, volume, surface area. Besides, correlation analysis proved all parameters significantly correlated positively. As superior effect, especially yields, thus it recommended for growers apply during S1.
